"Muslim Graves in Denmark: The Growth of Multireligious Burrials"
The article examines the funerary options and practices of Muslims in Denmark. It covers both the formal requirements for religious minorities’ burial practices, including those for Muslims, and how Muslims’ actual burial practices appear. It is based on material collected from cemeteries with Muslim sections in Denmark, and from the Muslim cemetery in Brøndby. The analysis of Muslim burial practices in Denmark shows how Muslims must adapt their traditions to the possibilities offered by Danish law and tradition. These accommodate Muslims to a varying extent - to a greater degree in the cemeteries’ Muslim sections than at the Muslim cemetery in Brøndby. Muslim burial practice in Denmark thus helps to show how Danish freedom of religion and hence multireligiosity are developing in practice.
